A Pair of Chinese Hardwood Traveling Armchairs, Jiaoyi
20th Century
each having a curved crestrail terminates in out-swept hooks and is supported on a s-shaped back splat pierced and carved showing a kui dragon, above a qilin amongst clouds, and a shaped opening. The arms are supported by elegant curved supports reinforced with metal hardware that continue on to form the front leg. The seat is joined by beaded horizontal members carved with scrollwork above the round-section legs. The whole is supported on legs joined at the mid-point, further joined by a foot rest.

Seat height 19 3/8 in.

Each in overall good structurally sound and stable condition, with some surface marks, scratches and tarnish to mounts as expected with use and age. Each opens and closes smoothly. When open the seat is sturdy and supports the weight of a 150 lb person without issue.
